YAWG Meeting Reminder

Youngstown Area Weavers will meet March 11 at 10 am at the Colonial Inn on the Canfield Fairgrounds. We will be showing our completed patchwork stockings and making final preparations to begin the coverlet project. Mary Ann has the weft so if you would like it before the meeting, call her to arrange a time to pick it up. The cost of the weft is $68.85 per person.

The program Wednesday is a special presentation by local quilter and designer Ginger Mangie of Wildside Stitching titled “OH, THOSE PEA PICKIN’ PINCUSHIONS”. There are always lots of stories and anecdotes – so come for the entertainment and bring your friends! Here is Ginger’s description of the talk…

We all have many of these utilitarian and sometimes whimsical little sewing accessories.  Take a walk through many decades of pincushions, the oldest one coming from the UK.  This pincushion was made by a WW1 soldier sent home to his sweetheart.  As with my other lectures, there is always a story or history to explore.  I bring 50 different pincushions or related items of interest.

And another thing just for fun… I ran across this via an embroidery blog but I think weavers can benefit from it too. It is an amazing way of putting together colors. Go check out Stitch Palettes and peruse the color combinations based on photographs – you will get lost in the inspiring ideas!
