Dye Day – July 11, 2018

The annual Dye Day this year will be held at 10 am at the home of Sheila in Leavittsburg. Sheila participated in a gradient dye class earlier this year and will be sharing what she learned with us. Here are the rules for dying a gradient skein in the red to blue (the photo is a bit darker than the actual samples) pictured above:

Bring a skein up to 250 grams (8 – 9 ounces).  Tie the skein in 5 or 6 places in a loose figure eight.  Cotton, silk, tencel, bamboo, any blend of them or any plant based yarn will work. DO NOT bring wool, alpaca or any other animal based yarn.

Also you will need something large enough to lay out your skein – like a tote lid. Two garbage bags large enough to fit over your lids to cover your yarn and safely carry it home when it is dyed. Wear something you don’t care about getting dye on.

June Meeting & Free-Style Weaving Workshop

June’s meeting will be baskets at the Weaving Willow in Hubbard. Basket is your choice – please let Liz know what you’d like to make or ask her for some ideas if you are not sure yet. She will have some wood bases made in advance.

Once again, another successful workshop! The creativity was flying for 3 days with bright colors, novelty yarns, roving, locks, beads, buttons and bangles. Just the supply table was a feast for the eyes. Thank you Sheila for a great time.

Workshop May 7 – 9 & Meeting May 9

The free weaving workshop is coming up fast. Sheila has an extensive list of very cool techniques to work through and will open up all your creative abilities. It will be a lot of fun! There is still space if anyone is interested.

There will be a regular monthly meeting on Wednesday the 9th at the Colonial Inn in the Fairgrounds. It will be a chance to see what the workshop participants have done. Also bring any show & tell from those over-the-winter weaving projects.

The April meeting with speaker Ginger Mangie was amazing! Ginger brought her extensive collection of purses and had lovely stories of history and entertainment, as well as what to look for in purchasing vintage bags. Here are some of her treasures:

Meeting April 11, 2018

The Role of Women and the Purses They Carried from 1890 to Present

Every woman carries a purse of some kind. This is a little walk through the decades of women and their handbags.

Ginger Mangie, a very talented local artist is our guest speaker at the April meeting. Not only is she an entertaining speaker, she will have many examples of purses from the last hundred years. Ginger will also have examples of stitchery from various eras and purses that she herself has designed.

So grab a friend, tell anyone who may have an interest to come to the program. It promises to be a whole lot of fun!

The business meeting starts at 10 am, the program will begin by 10:30 am at the Colonial Inn inside the Canfield Fairgrounds, across from the Grandstand.

March Recap

Our March program of revisiting Susan Conover’s workshop of last May proves we had success with the towels! Weaving the fine single ply linen weft with the cotton warp made for some beautiful towels to both see and feel.

Pictured is the 4 shaft broken twill by Liz and the  8 shaft turned twill by Tracy. We had on-loom photos from Colin too, proving there will be more. Hopefully many will be seen at the Fair this fall.

The decision was made to have Susan back again next year for a Rosepath sampler workshop. Mark your calendar now – May 6, 7 & 8, 2019. Details will be available in the fall.
