Loom wanted – If anyone knows of a Union or other 2 shaft rug loom in good working condition in need of a home, please contact Mary Ann or Tracy. They will get the information to the interested party.

YAWG Meeting Reminder

The next meeting of the Youngstown Area Weavers is Monday September 13 at 11 am in the Colonial Inn on the Canfield Fairgrounds.

It is the picnic, bring a covered dish to share.

For the project, worsted weight yarn is recommended for a nicely woven star (the gold one). DK weight is ok (the blue one), but leaves holes when the squares are sewn together. So bring a pin loom and yarn to weave with or 6 squares ready to assemble. Plus the yarn for sewing together, a tapestry needle to fit the yarn, a decorative button if desired and scissors. Instructions and Poly-fill will be provided.

Meeting Change!!

Because of the timing of the Fair this year, Youngstown Area Weavers Guild will meet Monday September 13 at the Colonial Inn on the Canfield Fairgrounds at 11:00. It is our luncheon / picnic…the Guild is providing chicken. Bring a covered dish to share.

Also bring your weavette or pin loom and yarn – Sheila will be sharing the pattern for a cute star ornament. Show & tell your dyed yarn from the summer dye day and what you entered in the Fair.

Any questions…contact Marilyn

Meeting Reminder & some bits…

Youngstown Area Weavers will meet on July 14 at 10 am in The Colonial Inn on the Canfield Fairgrounds. We will be doing warp painting on plant based fiber only. Sheila will be bringing a selection of colors, if you want a certain color or have any questions, contact her.

Here is what to bring:

  • Pre-wound warp tied loosely, ends can be tied tight – soak the warp in warm water with a couple drops of dish soap for about 1 hour. Squeeze out excess water and bring to the meeting wet.
  • gloves
  • 1″ & 2″ foam brushes
  • tubs or buckets to hold wet warp
  • plastic table covering or drop cloth
  • paper towels

Canfield Fair Demo: The Guilds will be demonstrating on Thursday, September 2 starting at 10 am. Marilyn can only get 4 free tickets, so speak up by the July meeting to claim one. Please consider participating for a few hours even if you don’t get a free ticket…

For those of you with little ones, this came through the website…

Greetings from Bend, Oregon. I’m excited to share a fun fiber animal book for kids.  The children’s book I wrote with my daughter, is now available both as a hardcover and an ebook (apple ibook). It’s about our first little alpacas coming to live at our ranch.  We tried to educate a bit about fleece.  As much as you can in a little kid picture book.

It can be ordered directly, now, from the Book Baby Book shop in hardcover: https://store.bookbaby.com/bookshop/book/index.aspx?bookURL=Whiskey-and-Zulu-Get-a-New-Home2
Or as an ebook: https://store.bookbaby.com/book/Whiskey-and-Zulu-get-a-new-home
